Where we've been has a lot to do with where we're going.
We haven’t wasted time on novelties... adding fins, gobs of chrome, nonfunctional spoilers, blacked-out hoods and weird color schemes. We have been quietly building some of the most electrifying cars in town.
Remember the first GTO?
In 1964, we took a very good mid-sized car, added a solid 389 V-8, heavy-duty springs, shocks and stabilizer bar. The rest is history.
Not since the days of the Stutz Bearcat had any car so captured the country’s imagination. Every red-blooded American boy wanted one. They even wrote songs about it.
The '67 Firebird - something for everyone.
When we decided to build a small sporty car, we built not one, but five. A veritable flock of Firebirds. From the economical basic Firebird to the Firebird 400. With three stops along the way. The 326, Sprint, and HO (for High Output).
It meant more of a choice for every enthusiast.
Even the family man on a tight budget could afford an exciting American sports car.
The '70 Trans Am-a whole new breed of Bird.
With a front air dam. Side air extractors. A spoiler at
each wheel. And at the rear deck. No gingerbread. They’re all functional.
The main ingredient, a 455 CID V-8. To move with the best. And a beefed-up suspension that works with the aerodynamics to help keep Trans Am hugging the road.
73 Grand Am-foreign intrigue,
Yankee ingenuity.
Grand Am is what we’ve come up with for 73. A lot of what may fascinate you about fine imports has been captured in a truly unique American way. The Wide-Track way of Pontiac.
Grand Am’s credentials are most impressive. A
suspension specially designed for the standard steel-belted radial tires. A responsive 400 V-8. Power front disc brakes. Variable-ratio power steering. Real wood interior trim. Rally instrumentation. Front bucket seats that recline. Adjustable lower back supports.
A two-door and a four-door model.
And an incredible front end that squeezes on minor impact, then pops back into shape.
